At last, a president who (Trump) brought up the legal issue of who is a citizen in America (October 2018).
Certainly, the 14th Amendment was about granting federal citizenship to recently freed slaves (1871) . . .
. . . and not about granting “anchor baby” citizenship to illegal immigrants who steal their way across the border to give birth to a child so they can claim U.S. citizenship when in fact they are a citizen of another country by virtue of their birth records.
This is no different than a chihuahua taking a walk around the neighborhood peeing on lawns claiming the region as his territory.
Illegal immigrants have no right to the benefits of citizenship until they apply for citizenship legally, prove they are healthy competent people, and renounce their citizenship in another country.
One of the great questions is, “Are you an American national or a U.S. citizen and why?”
For understanding the legal matrix of citizenship see SEDM on Citizenship and Citizenship Status v. Tax Status.
