Good for the Southern Baptists
June 16, 2015
In light of the cases before the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of marriage and same-sex unions, President Ronnie Floyd addressed 5,000 delegates in Columbus, Ohio and stated the following;
“Our first commitment is to God and his word — nothing else and no one else,” said Floyd, an Arkansas megachurch pastor, speaking Tuesday (June 16) about the court’s impending ruling on same-sex marriage.
“I want to remind everyone today, humbly, the Supreme Court of the United States is not the final authority, nor is the culture itself, but the Bible is God’s final authority about marriage and on this book we stand,” he said, drawing a standing ovation.
“We will not accept, nor adhere to, any legal redefinition of marriage issued by any political or judicial body including the United States Supreme Court,” said the joint statement by SBC President Rev. Ronnie Floyd as well as past presidents.
It added, “We will not recognize same-sex ‘marriages,’ our churches will not host same-sex ceremonies, and we will not perform such ceremonies.”
Good for the Southern Baptist!! Soooo glad to finally hear a clear message that God, not the Supreme Court, is the final authority on social issues smothering this nation.
If the Supreme Court errors and stupidly states the Constitution supports gay unions, they will have declared war on Christianity. For, all laws against nature are null and void. And, “gay marriage” is a declaration of war on nature and nature’s God.
Whether the Southern Baptist will “put their money where their mouth is” is an entirely different question.
If the government begins to put the squeeze on Christian colleges and seminaries, if history means anything, “Christian” universities will do everything in their power to retain the tax exempt status rather than face sanctions or closure or confrontation from the government enforcer–the IRS Gorilla.
Since physical courage is quite common but moral courage quite rare, I wouldn’t count on the Southern Baptists to stand together on the day of battle. Nevertheless, I’m glad to see one man declaring the truth, that God’s Word, not the Supreme Court’s word, is the final authority on faith and conduct.
